IT IS now several years since I wrote to the late Duke of Devonshire over the fact that there was no official recognition for sports people who had achieved success.
How can we hope to present role models if there is no recognition, especially among the young? I received a very nice letter from the Duke, who fully supported my complaints, but he took a positive role in insisting that the local establishment took the necessary action to bring about the now-established Derbyshire Sports Awards, in which local council boroughs have their sports awards, with the winners going on for the main award, the Derbyshire Sports Awards.See the full content of this document
