Summary
IN 2001 Unesco declared the 15-mile stretch of the Derwent Valley between Matlock Bath and Derby a World Heritage site - putting it on a par with the likes of India's Taj Mahal and the Great Wall of China.
The successful bid owed much to Cromford Mill. Built by Sir Richard Arkwright in 1771 as the world's first waterpowered cotton- spinning mill, it is regarded as the cradle of the Industrial Revolution.See the full content of this document
