Tomorrow is Trinity Sunday when the Church celebrates a central Christian doctrine: that God is three distinct persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, sharing the same divine nature, bound together in loving relationship. To explain such a mystery is enough to make any church leader tremble for who can begin to comprehend the transcendent nature of God? So, if your minister is off sick tomorrow you'll know why!
Many illustrations are used to help portray the Trinity. If life is pictured as a marathon, for instance, we might imagine the Father watching our progress, waiting at the finishing line. Jesus Christ, the Son, who has already completed the course himself, is our role model and coach.
