HAVING seen the photograph of Ley's Home Guard Unit in Bygones (December 4), I can confirm that the group shown was just a part of what was a larger platoon.
The photograph appears in my book Blackheart - The History of Ley's Malleable Castings in Derby. During research for the book, I well remember visiting Barbara Gray, who submitted the photograph to Bygones, when she and husband George were very helpful in contributing to that research. The trophy displayed in the foreground was awarded to the ten men pictured as winners in a rifle shooting contest.See the full content of this document
