HAVING finally become Central Alliance champions the previous season, the new 1960-61 season did not start that well for Matlock Town.

A 4-3 opening day defeat by Denby was followed by a 0-1 defeat by Heanor Town in the FA Cup, so there was to be no repeat of the previous year's romance against Crook Town.
