1) RISE OF THE PLANET OF APES This attempt to re-launch a franchise that started in 1968 with the Charlton Heston original, is the film that finally removed Harry Potter from the top of the pile. It took Pounds 5.8m in its first three days proving that there's still life left in the concept.
2)THE SMURFS IN 3D The biggest surprise this week is the success of this movie based on the comic books by Peyo which brings the little blue characters to life using the same digital trickery as Alvin And The Chipmunks.
