Summary
A Recent report by a group of academics reported no improvement in the literacy levels of the bottom 20 per cent of pupils over the past decade, despite pounds500m being spent on the literacy hour over this period of time. Another report on November 8 found that those entering senior school with poor reading abilities were to receive extra support during their first year at senior school.
Failing schools are closed for not meeting children's needs, parents are blamed for not sitting with their children and listening to them read.
