A REPORT in your paper on July 25 headed "Suicide Uturn" gave a rather misleading impression on the attitude of the Royal College of Nursing to assisted suicide, as did the usually reliable Daily Mail, which claimed that the Nurses College will not oppose assisted suicide.
Although at first glance the headlines would seem true, since 49 per cent of those voting in a consultation did vote to drop the college's opposition, when the results are studied more closely they show it is not true that the nurses voted not to oppose assisted suicides. Those who answered the consultation were but 1,200 nurses! This represents only one third of one per cent of the RCN's 390,000 members, and less than half of the members even got the consultation.See the full content of this document
