When Burton vicar's daughter Victoria Simmonds made her stage debut at the tender of age of 12 playing Pinocchio for a group of village players, little did she know that 20 odd years later she would star as the famous puppet in the world premiere of a new family opera.

The 37-year-old singer from the Burton village of Branston takes the title role in Opera North's acclaimed production The Adventures of Pinocchio, which brings her to Nottingham Theatre Royal next weekend.
