Summary
THE 21ST CENTURY PENSIONER Gordon Lockley, Borrowash They met and married a long time ago Working long hours when wages were low There were no bathrooms and times were hard Just a cold water tap and a water-closet in the yard There was coal on the fires but no carpets on floors There was nothing to steal so why lock the doors Children arrived and brought happy days They were fed and clothed without state aids It was safe for the children to play in the park Grandma and Granddad could walk in the dark In those days the Health Service treated at once Now for treatment the wait can be 12 months Respect and courtesy was taught from birth Now greed and selfishness seems to come first.
Now at the end of their lifetime of work Their pensions are considered a handout perk The shame of means testing is their fear They feel a liability that should not be here Ten pounds at Christmas is a national disgrace On this pathetic handout, who can celebrate? Those over 75 that still have good eyes With free telly, they're again patronised.See the full content of this document
