THE owners of a Derbyshire discount store have been fined Pounds 5,000 for selling dolls claimed to be linked to kidney damage in children. Ilkeston magistrates heard that more than 3,500 of the Be My Baby dolls were imported from China by B & M Retail of Blackpool and some sold at its store in the Albion Centre, Ilkeston. The court was told the toys contained a chemical linked to serious organ damage.
Magistrates fined the company Pounds 5,000 after it pleaded guilty to supplying the goods and having incorrect labels in August last year. The court heard that one doll contained between 290 and 460 times the permitted level of the chemical phthalate.See the full content of this document
