THE Prime Minister has told a Derby MP that he remains "hopeful and confident" that Bombardier will stay in the city. In a letter to Derby North MP Chris Williamson, David Cameron said that he wanted to see the Litchurch Lane firm remain in Derby and compete for future work. Mr Cameron's letter comes with Bombardier poised to announce the results of a review into its UK operations. It is planning to shed around 1,400 jobs and has not ruled out closing the Litchurch Lane site altogether. The company initiated the review shortly after it discovered it had missed out on the Pounds 1.4 billion Thameslink deal. In June, the Department for Transport announced that German firm Siemens had been named preferred bidder for the work to build 1,200 carriages ahead of Bombardier.
