THERE are lots of names for people which originate from plant names; I'm thinking of Poppy, Daisy, Violet, even Myrtle, but how do plants get their names? Some are easy to guess such as the bluebell or red hot poker, but did you know, for example, that Buddleia is named after the Rev Adam Buddle or that poinsettia is named after Dr Joel Roberts Poinsett? He was US ambassador to the Republic of Mexico in the early 1800s.
