1969 1969 LOCAL: The round-up of 32 chipmunks which escaped from Phillipson's Pet Shop, Tenant Street, was continuing. Ten of the escapees were still at large. One which had been evading capture in Marshall and Dunn's, in the Cornmarket, had been captured, and traps had been lent to the Ministry of Agriculture to speed up the operation.

SPORT: Gene Littler, America's "quiet man of golf", staged a tremendous recovery to draw level with Bob Charles, of New Zealand, at the end of the first round of the Piccadilly Pounds 18,400, 36- hole world matchplay championships final at Wentworth.
