1969 1969 LOCAL: Some 23 of the 32 Korean chipmunks which escaped from their cage at Phillipson's pet shop, Tenant Street, Derby, were still at large 24 hours later. One was captured in London Road and one of several found running loose in the shop was caught and killed by a cat.

SPORT: Three donations of Pounds 5 each were received by Burton Albion chairman Tom Bradbury after his appeal to supporters to help the club out of its dire financial situation. Players had already agreed to turn out for the club despite being told there was no money to pay them.
