Summary
The Kardomah was the meeting place for many, but especially women, in the 1940s-60s. Many women would shop daily and, with Sainsbury's in the Corn Market being close by, the Kardomah was the natural "watering hole".
My mother loved the place for she could be guaranteed to know someone she could join for a cup of tea or coffee and a friendly chat. Most people then carried a small container of precious sugar or sweeteners in order to augment any sugar supplied.See the full content of this document
