Summary
I Joined the Post Office in 1952 as a junior postman. The public usually called us Telegram Boys but we liked to be known as GPO messengers. I don't really know why, perhaps we thought it sounded more mature.
It was by chance that I became a messenger because, since my dad worked for Rolls-Royce, I was eligible for an R-R apprenticeship. But, as I left school in December and the next apprenticeship course didn't start until the following spring, I had to find a means of earning a living for the next three or four months.See the full content of this document
