A DERBYSHIRE soldier, shot in the arm by the Taliban in Afghanistan, dug out the bullet and treated it himself. Guardsman Lewis Coulbert was on patrol in the middle of the night when a single shot from an enemy sniper ricocheted around the compound in which he was holed up and entered his upper arm.

Guardsman Coulbert, from Ashbourne, said the shot felt like "being jabbed in the arm really hard".
