WHEN Derbyshire police were asked if they would provide support for the first Radio Derby Children in Need charity motorcyle ride from Powers-ports at Clay Cross to Radio Derby, on October 18, the response was that they could not spare any officers. They would all be needed to police the Ratcliffe-on-Soar protest over that weekend.

When the cavalcade came along the A6, there just happened to be a speed camera van in its usual place on the A6/Ford Lane junction.
