Summary
I Have read the recent articles regarding the quality of care at the Derbyshire Royal Infirmary and I feel desperately sorry for the families concerned at a time of very great sadness. Recently I too have been in a similar situation but have come away from the DRI with a very different point of view.
On May 1, my sister, Pat, was diagnosed with terminal cancer and four days later she suffered a stroke. Having spent a week in the acute stroke unit at the DRI she was transferred to Ward 47 in the rehabilitation unit. What started out hopefully as a period of rehabilitation from the effects of the stroke very soon became a period of palliative care as the effects of the cancer took their toll and my sister passed away on June 30.
