TED Durose writes that in the late 40s he won a scholarship to Bemrose Grammar School and felt he didn't belong with the 600 fee- paying rich kids. (Bygones, July 20).

There were no fee-paying kids in the late 40s at the girls' grammars in Derby, as everyone who attended had passed the 11-plus, as it became known.
