JOE Coleman calls my letter disagreeing with his football xenophobia a "character assassination" (Capello will have loyalties tested, October 1). If this is what Joe calls a character assassination he must have had a very sheltered life. My thoughts were simply that, as he writes on a plethora of subjects, he cannot possibly be an expert on them all. His football opinions amply demonstrate this.
In simple terms my disagreement with Mr Coleman is one of criteria. He considers it more important that the England manager can sing the national anthem while I consider it much more crucial for him to steer the side to international success. No World Cup has yet been awarded for the manager's rendition of a patriotic song - as far as I am aware the trophy goes to the team performing best on the pitch. It doesn't seem to matter to other countries what their head coach's country of origin is so I fail to see why we English should worry.See the full content of this document
