Tony Taylor joined International Combustion Limited as an engineering apprentice in 1953. It proved to be one of the best decisions of his life. Not only did the excellent training enable him to pursue a successful career in engineering project management, he also met the love of his life in the tracing department. From his home in South Africa, Tony sent these fond reminiscences of his early days at ICL.

It was mid-morning and I was enjoying my regular coffee break at home here in South Africa when my wife, Eileen, passed me a newspaper cutting just received from her cousin, who lives in Smalley and keeps her in touch with Bygones and the Telegraph's Yesterday Today supplement.

I looked at it and there was a large photograph of the old drawing office at International Combustion Ltd (see far right), sent in by Rex North, with an article about the company in and subsequent to the 1950s.
