Drunk Attacked Flatmate with Lump Hammer After Row

Summary

A DRUNK man kicked, stamped on and attacked a flatmate with a lump hammer after an argument about cleaning the property.

John Haywood assaulted Andrew Lowe in their flat in Northumberland Street, Derby, then chased his victim after he escaped through a window. Haywood, 44, only stopped when passers-by intervened. Derby Crown Court heard that the pair had argued about Mr Lowe cleaning the flat. Sarah Allen, prosecuting, said Haywood took hold of Mr Lowe's throat with his left hand and took him to the floor and kicked him and stamped on his head. He then armed himself with a lump hammer and hit him twice to the left leg and foot.
