WHAT on earth do Derbyshire have to do to kill off a game on the final day? After the agony of Leicester and the frustration of Northants at Chesterfield, there was more torment yesterday as Middlesex clung on to deny Derbyshire the one more wicket they needed to clinch a vital victory at Uxbridge.

If only one of those matches had finished in a win, Derbyshire would be in pole position to claim the second promotion place in the LV County Championship Division Two.
