BUSINESS leaders are urging EU ministers to rethink controversial plans to extend maternity leave which could end up costing firms millions of pounds a year.

Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce is calling for a "thorough assessment" of the Pregnant Workers Directive that recommends maternity leave in all EU countries to be extended from six to 20 weeks on full pay.
