Bishop John 'Humbled' by New Calling

Summary


A FORMER city priest, who has been appointed into a top position within the Catholic Church, says he will use his experiences in Derby to help him with his new responsibilities. The Right Reverend John Sherrington was ordained Auxiliary Bishop of Westminster after being put forward for the role and later appointed by Pope Benedict XVI. Mr Sherrington, 53, spent five years as parish priest of Our Lady of Lourdes, in Uttoxeter Road, Derby, working with people and schools in Mickleover, Littleover, Etwall, Egginton, Willington, Findern, Hilton and Hatton.

He was also a governor at both St Joseph's Catholic Primary School, in Derby, and St Benedict Catholic School, in Darley Abbey, and was involved in the parish's Derby Tuesday Club, whose members work to support people with additional needs.
