Reading about the plans to put a Jury's Inn hotel on the empty site between St Mary's Church and Queen Street prompted me to write about the former church of St Alkmund's Church which occupied part of the site before the Inner Ring Road necessitated its removal.

John Cadwallader of Cityscape claims the hotel will "bring an active and vibrant use to the Cathedral quarter" and that it will not block the "view of key city buildings" - which, in fact it will.
