I ALWAYS enjoy reading letters from David Tobias. I understand the reasons for his reservations about the late Ted Kennedy (Tragedy looms in Afghanistan, September 8).

Reeling from the murder of Martin Luther King, I returned to the Quaker Research Centre in Philadelphia from the Washington Poor People's march in 1968. The death of Robert Kennedy so soon after Dr King's made me conclude that America was the land of political assassination. I fear for President Obama's safety.
