OUT of all the headlines generated on the back of the Cabinet's away day to Derby, the one that excited me the most was the Government's endorsement of how manufacturing appears to be booming.

I think I've become conditioned over the years to forming the view that manufacturing in its widest sense was on its knees - a brutal global recession, volatile money markets, increasing bureaucracy all contributing to a very real and radical dismantling of the manufacturing sector in the UK as we know it.
