LOCAL: Members of South-East Derbyshire Rural Council discussed how they would fight Derby Town Council proposals to take a number of parishes into Derby Borough. Particularly outspoken at the meeting was Councillor A. Matthews, who represented Chellaston. SPORT: Former Derby County full-back Roy Patrick was named in the Nottingham Forest XI to play a Derby and District Senior League XI in a charity game in Derby.
Murder Mystery in City Finally Solved
BYGONES has finally got to the bottom of a mystery surrounding the location and date of a murder in Derby. Back in March, Vicky Spencer wrote asking readers about the history of the house at 342 Uttoxeter New Road.
ONCE again Bygones readers have come up trumps, supplying names for a mystery football photograph. The picture, which was sent in by Terry Fletcher, of Belper, shows the 1950-51 Rosehill Football Club team.
IT was seen as a means of introducing "townies" to the way of life in the countryside and help provide employment both during and after the Second World War. Run nationally by the YMCA, the British Boys for British Farms scheme had training centres across the country.

WITH reference to the letter sent to Bygones by John Powles and the photograph said to be of Johnny Dankworth. I don't think this can be correct, as the person in the photograph appears to be playing a double bass.
IN reply to the banker's article "A business failing is of no benefit, banks want them to exit the recession" (Derby Telegraph, April 13), I have this to say: Banks failing to deliver fairly is no benefit to business. The financial watchdog was not on guard as the investment bankers got greedy and outright reckless and when the recession inevitably took hold many companies were hit hard through no fault of their own.
JILL GALLONE THERE'S something big happening today. Can't quite remember what it is but I know it will give lots of people plenty to moan about. Win, lose, hung, drawn or quartered, the country will wake up to a new dawn tomorrow. Or will it? We may have a new Government, a new Prime Minister and a fresh batch of MPs but some things never change when it comes to the absurdities of our nation.

IT'S advantage Coopers Arms after the first round of their Challenge Match against Bridge Inn AC. The match, which was fished in blustery conditions on Coopers Lake, saw 10 anglers compete.
Good Catches Are On Offer at Foremark
ANGLERS at Foremark are being rewarded with good numbers of fish from the South Derbyshire venue. Sport is good both from the boat and the bank, particularly around Sunblessed Bay, Hut Point, Vernon's Point (bank) and Cascade, Gorse Bay and Heron Point (boat).
PRIDE of Derby Junior Sam Randall stormed to victory in the first Rycroft Fisheries Monday night open match of the season. The three-hour match was split between the Moat and Clover Lakes, with Randall (pictured), who used paste down the edges, catching his 62lb 4oz net on the Moat.
Willis and Family Take Red Card ; Homing
DAVE Willis and Family got the first pigeon back to Derby when the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation travelled to Blandford. The pigeons were liberated at 8am on Saturday, in a westerly wind, needing to travel 145 miles to Derby.
