People Should Have a Say On Scrapping City's Cctv Cameras

A Group of councillors asked to review plans to remove CCTV cameras in some areas of Derby will recommend that the public is consulted about the decision. Plans to scrap 26 CCTV cameras across the city came close to being approved at a council cabinet meeting last month, but were postponed after leader Councillor Hilary Jones admitted there had not been enough consultation.

Four Artists in Frame As Vote Looms

Alvaston residents will choose the artist who produces a piece of work for the district centre. Derby City Council will hold an exhibition between 11am and 3pm on Saturday, at Alvaston Library, by four artists who will be available to discuss their proposals.

New Names for City's Hospitals

Derby's hospitals have today been renamed following an 11-year, multi-million-pound project to transfer all major services to one site. Derby City General Hospital is now Royal Derby Hospital and houses most departments, including casualty and intensive care.

Major, 90, Who Was Bursar Dies

The cost and details of setting up a speakers' corner in Derby are to be investigated by council officers. At a full meeting of Derby City Council, Boulton ward councillor Ranjit Banwait proposed the idea of a speakers' corner in an effort to encourage public speaking and open debate.
