Professor's Crime Novel

After spending 11 years teaching students how to write creatively it is hardly surprising that author and University of Derby lecturer Carl Tighe has a clever plot or two of his own up his sleeve. And, Carl's latest novel, Druid's Hill, a political thriller set in Manchester, promises to be a real page-turner, designed to keep readers guessing right up to the final chapter.

Harry's Wild About History

Although Darley Abbey author Harry Butterton originates from Wales, he probably knows more about Derby's past than many of the people who have lived their whole life in the city. In 1972 Harry, now 77, moved into the Derby area to work in education - initially as a teacher and later as an advisor. However, since his retirement several years ago, he has been able to indulge his great passion for history, painstakingly researching and writing books about Derby's past.

Thirty years of searching and a 26-hour flight down under is finally uniting Scott Birkhead with the brothers and sisters he only knew existed on paper. Drugs May Have Made Man's Fatal Bleeding Worse

An elderly man who died from bleeding in his brain may have been made worse by the medication he was given at hospital. Frank Corke was taking drugs to thin his blood when he suffered the brain haemorrhage in September last year. Although the medication did not cause the blood vessel in his brain to burst, it may have made the bleeding which followed worse, an inquest heard. The reason the blood vessel burst is unknown.
