I WAS born at the Nightingale Maternity Home, on London Road, Derby, on March 5, 1930, and lived with my family in Sherwin Street, Derby. I started Kedleston Road Infants School in March 1935 but I soon contracted scarlet fever and missed about a year of schooling.
