Memories of Club Cycling in the 1950s

YOU featured an article about cyclist Dave Orford in a recent issue of Bygones. I remember him well. He was a slightly older contemporary of mine. I was a member of Derby Halcyon Cycle Racing Club, which was formed from a breakaway group of members of the Derby Mercury Road Club around 1948.

THE article about the Nightingale Maternity Home (Bygones, September 12) took my mind back to 40 years ago when my daughter was born there. At the end of my 10 days' stay, which was the usual length of post-natal care at the time, the matron accompanied baby and me to the car where my husband was waiting to drive us home.
